A Friend I Know

Objective: This film is a fairy tale about a misunderstood wolf. We wanted to create a story which questioned the wolf myth: A wolf is internationally personified as being evil, based on its sinister appearance. Our story is a modern satire of the media age, when sensationalist newspaper reporting can ruin an innocent wolf's reputation and lead to his downfall!

Tools used: To create A Friend I Know, we utilized all the design and filmmaking skills we'd learnt, involving a truly experimental mix of digital media: shooting DV footage, combining it with a 3D object, followed by 2D animation in Adobe® After Effects® and editing in Adobe Premiere®. We designed a 3D wolf's head and motion-tracked it onto the DV footage of our actor's body in After Effects. Much time was spent working on the illustrations and graphics in Adobe Photoshop® and Adobe Illustrator® before we imported them into After Effects to be animated and tinted in a warm, old-fashioned style. The storyboard editing and the final edit were done in Adobe Premiere.
