Awaiting Presentiment
Biography: Adam Lieber was born in South Africa where he received his BA in sculpture at Michaelis UCT. During this time he explored his interests in sound and video and began mixing it into his work. After graduating he remained in Cape Town for four years where he exhibited, organized music and art events, co-ran The Mau-Mau gallery, and performed in a band.
In 2001 Adam moved to Italy where he spent a year working at Fabrica in the music department focusing on producing audio, sound design, and music for video, web, live performances, and installations. He currently resides in London where he is working on his MA at the Royal College of Art in the Communications department. His interests lie primarily in developing works in film, sculpture, and sound.
Objective: The piece explores in an abstract way the current state of "unknowingness," of what may happen next at any minute in large cities in the Western world (within the context of current politics). Although unaware of our immediate future, we all seem to carry on with our daily lives. We are unsure whether the protagonists in the film are aware or unaware of the sound/music, which at times seems to drive the camera and affect the image in a physical and abstract way. The film is primarily driven by the sound, which accentuates this almost lethargic state of passing time that the characters are in, and it is used to emphasize this notion of unknowingness or premonition.
Tools used: I shot on a Canon XL and did all the editing and post-production effects in Adobe® Premiere®.
