Animation: Finalist

Sean Jimenez
California Institute of the Arts

Asleep at the Wheel

Biography: As a child, Sean Jimenez was always drawing cartoons. As a teenager, he saw Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty for the first time and was inspired to get into animation. When Sean was a senior, he had a golden opportunity to get into the Disney Feature Animation training program. He was hired by Disney as an “inbetweener” and worked on four features for them. He went to Warner Bros. to work on The Iron Giant, where he was exposed to all aspects of the filmmaking process. After a three-year stint as an audio-animatronics animator for Walt Disney Imagineering, Sean is now attending California Institute of the Arts, where he is dedicated to broadening his understanding in animation and filmmaking.

Objective: To demonstrate that even in a lonely suburban environment in the middle of the night, we are not really alone, even if it takes a little magic to see this fact.

Tools used: I drew every image by hand. I then scanned and redrew everything in Adobe® Illustrator®. Next, I composited, animated, panned, and completed everything else in Adobe After Effects®. Finally, I edited all pieces using Adobe Premiere®.
