Will Johnson
Savannah College of Art and Design

Biography: Will was born and raised in Portland, Oregon in the 80’s where he lived with his parents. He ventured into the realm of motion graphics and broadcast design his sophomore year at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Before his jump into motion graphics he was interested in architecture, industrial design, graphic design and theater. Will considers himself not only an artist but also an athlete, participating in varsity soccer at SCAD for two years. He will continue to create images, and has hopes to make an impact in the motion graphics and broadcast design community.

Objective: Our world is based on expectation. We go through life waiting for a climax, hoping that certain actions will eventually lead to a breaking point. I have developed this piece to convey that notion of a build-up and to push the senses with colors, sounds and movements, all leading to one solid point; the animation of the logo. It is this association with everyday life that pushes the piece, and the playfulness of the climax, that cements it.

Tools used: I began the process in Adobe® Photoshop®, playing with textures, colors and shapes. I first created the video, then the 3D elements, and finally the 2D elements. Then I brought everything the 2D, 3D and video elements into Adobe After Effects®, and began to play. I worked on the balloons first, keying the athletes from their environments and placing them in the balloon world. The logo was created with Adobe Illustrator®, and finished in After Effects, where I added the buildings and the puddle-jumping girl. I finally worked on the overall textures of the piece, which help to define the overall feel.
