Biography: Albert J. Ignacio, Yaeger Moravia Rosenberg, and Marcelo Viana are graduates of the graphic design program at the California College of the Arts. Sharing similar visions of their roles as visual communicators, they decided to take on their senior thesis as a group, starting the collective Dear Friends. Their research took them to their countries of ancestry (Haiti, the Philippines, and Brazil), in search of a model for the practice of design that would be guided by the principles of solidarity, democracy, and equity. Dear Friends has won the AIGA Enrichment Scholarship in 2005 and the CCA Graphic Design Thesis Award.
Objectives: An investigation of our privilege and our roles as communicators in the betterment of our society. The three of us traveled back to the places our families are from to get a better understanding of what our parents left to hand us down "better lives." This project is the fruition of our experiences, before and after the trip, and our goals as visual communicators.
Tools used: We used Adobe® Illustrator®, InDesign®, and Photoshop®.
