Biography: Born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1984, Filip moved with his family to Queens, New York, in 1989. He grew up trying his best to fit in and be "cool," and felt that all the art created was made to impress others. He grew long hair, found happiness through aggressive inline skating, and tried to forget about the world. Filip finally went to the Rhode Island School of Design to learn how to express himself honestly. The clarity he gained there opened so many doors that all his art production shifted into more radical practices of social intervention, performance, and site-specific installations. Filip is interested in art as a bridge between people.
Objectives: This is an interactive re-creation of a band I am in. We play improvised music using found instruments. I have been developing this interactive animation so that we could use it as an instrument in itself. This is an excerpt showing two of the four band members and allowing for simultaneous play. The version we use has a single band member per Flash® file on four computers, each outputting to a projector that displays the band very large within the space. I have also presented this on the web, allowing anyone to have fun making music through us.
Tools used: Macromedia® Flash 8 from Adobe was used almost exclusively. All drawing, animating, and scripting were done in the program. I have tried using various other programs for interaction but have found Flash to function and look the best.
