Video: Third Place
Colin Rider

Metropolis Trailer
Objective: I tried to create an entirely synthetic enviroment that would envelope the viewer. I tried to adhere to traditional cinematic techniques of visual pacing and frame composition to present an otherwise otherworldly place. I also strove to use a visual style that presented the world as stylistically beautiful, as well as mysterious.
Tools used: Adobe® Photoshop® was used to create digital matte paintings. Adobe After Effects® was used exclusively for bluescreen keying, color timing, and for compositing over 250 layers for four shots. The piece was almost entirely composed of 2D elements; very little CG was used. Adobe Photoshop and After Effects was also used for preproduction design and for creating animatics.
