Let your creativity soar with Adobe Photoshop Elements

Chase Newton, iD Tech Camps, Virginia
When 9-year-old Chase Newton left home to attend summer camp, he never imagined that he would end up flying over the pyramids or climbing huge buildings King Kong-style. But thanks to his vivid imagination, Canon digital camera, and Adobe® Photoshop® Elements, that's exactly where he ended up.

Chase attended iD Tech Camps, a summer technology program for beginning to advanced students ages 7 to 17 at more than 35 prestigious universities in 17 states. While taking the camp’s Multimedia Adventures course at the University of Virginia, Chase got a chance to let his wondrous creativity soar.

“We could do amazing things with the digital photos once we got them into Photoshop,” said Chase. “Because the program was so easy to use, we made the photos weird, twisted them around, took elements out, and added items in.”

The theme of this creative, imaginative project was “Put Yourself in the Element.” Students from iD Tech Camps nationwide also competed in a photo challenge contest to place themselves in photos – with crazy results.

“We got some very clever projects,” said lead instructor Amanda Whichard. “As a result, students had a blast learning as they were eager to express their creativity through technology.”

The "Chase Kong" photo was definitely one of the most creative and engaging for all the campers. Chase took a photo of himself and used perspective to create a spoof on King Kong. He then got other campers to pose as the "victims," which turned out to be a very popular role as his peers were eager to participate and be included in this funny photo.

Even at a young age, Chase’s new-found interest in photography and digital editing has inspired him to pursue a career as a photographer. Upon returning from camp, Chase’s mom, Jackie Newton, decided to get him a digital camera of his own.

“This project really inspired him to be a photographer and experiment creatively with technology,” said Jackie. “It’s definitely opened up his eyes to seeing the world through the eye of a camera. With his newfound excitement, we’ve even enrolled him in an enrichment course for photography. Who knows, he may decide to follow this path all his life.”

iD Tech Camps provide weeklong, day and overnight summer technology programs. The Multimedia Adventures course includes fun Adobe Photoshop Elements projects like this “Put Yourself in the Element.”
