Aaron Pompei, senior media designer for SCAD-eLearning, has been with the department since 2004. He was working for SCAD-eLearning while pursuing a degree in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Pompei completed his degree work, and as a member of the SCAD-eLearning department, he worked directly with faculty and students to support their efforts in extending education to the online environment.
He has trained faculty to use and implement the course management system Blackboard and various Web 2.0 technologies to increase students' engagement with both in-class and online courses. Work with students has been mainly to support their efforts to develop fully online and hybrid classroom environments. From 2004 to 2006, Pompei also began the development and design of SCAD-eLearning's three main resources: the Virtual Lecture Hall, a growing catalog of lectures and events accessible via the web by the SCAD community; SCAD-eLearning Channel, a support and information website for online students; and the Online Student Orientation, an introduction to the SCAD online classroom environment for first-time online students.
SCAD-eLearning resources have continued to develop over the years. As a senior media designer, Pompei continues to develop and design multimedia for SCAD-eLearning's fully online courses. In addition to multimedia development, he coordinates all recording of events and lectures and continues development on the Virtual Lecture Hall.
Before joining SCAD-eLearning and finishing his degree work, Pompei spent five years in the web design field working as a web designer for an online retailer based in Connecticut, and later as webmaster and e-commerce manager with Savannah Harley-Davidson in Georgia.
Pompei enjoys his current position for the diversity of responsibilities and challenges presented by working in academia. When he is not in the office, he enjoys photography for personal expression and freelance. He also enjoys reading science fiction, home renovation with his wife, and spending time outdoors with his dogs.
