As Manager of Academic Computing, Andrew McAllister currently manages the creative computing environment at OCADU, from student and faculty computing to leading innovative web development. Since 2003, he has blended IT expertise with art & design at OCAD University designing and building e-learning applications and supporting the digital enhancement of curriculum.
For over a decade, McAllister has strived to make human-computer interactions more intuitive, usable and user-centered. He previously worked as Manager of Web Design at Symantec Corporation, rolling out site-wide redesign campaigns and customized user-experiences for products and CRM projects, winning several Symantec IT awards along the way.
As a practicing artist, McAllister creates video, audio, interactive and photographic works, some of which have been funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council and Toronto Arts Council. McAllister’s videos and photographs have been shown at the International Biennale of Contemporary Art (Prague), the CONTACT Festival of Photography (Toronto), the imagineNATIVE media arts + film festival (Toronto), Century Gallery (London) and Sis Boom Bah (Toronto) in Out and About, GARDENfresh (Chicago), Oxo Tower (London) in Response/Ability and at FotoFestival Naarden (Netherlands).
As a musician, McAllister has participated in the Toronto music scene since the 1990s, including the Wavelength Music series, running a small independent label, helping mix and master records for NECK, The Silt, Republic of Safety, and others. Currently, he is the singer/songwriter and guitarist for the critically-acclaimed Soft Copy.
