Mark Geary has spent 24 years in education as a teacher, technology specialist, administrator, lobbyist, counselor for severely emotionally disturbed youth, and literacy specialist. He is currently assistant professor of technology and literacy at Dakota State University. His primary focus is on software, such as Adobe® Dreamweaver® and Flash® Professional, that enhances learning and reading proficiency in at-risk youth.
Geary received his doctorate in Online Learning while providing technology support for the Florida Literacy and Reading Excellence program at the University of Central Florida. He brought that expertise to the Seminole Public County Schools, where he focused on extending literacy initiatives into online media. He was a content-area reading specialist for Ohio's SIRI initiative before moving to South Dakota to teach children's literature and technology integration at Dakota State University. He presents nationally and internationally on visual literacy, games as learning tools, constructive uses of cell phones in education, and uses of video mashups as an educational tool.
Geary is an instructor and master administrator for the Certified Internet Web (CIW) Professional Program, CompTIA Network+ certified, a Certified Professional on Microsoft® Windows® XP and Windows Server® 2003, and a Cisco Certified Network Associate.
