Matthijs Clasener has been teaching design and animation in the Media Design/Interactive Department at Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam since 2002. His students master the basics of programming with the ActionScript® programming language. They learn design with Adobe software and create 2D animations with Adobe® Flash® Professional.
In 2009, Graphic Lyceum Rotterdam students competed in the EUROPRIX Multimedia Awards competition for the first time. Two projects in animation and one in game design won the Quality Seal.
Part of Clasener's role at Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam is organizing field trips for the second-year students. He arranges trips to London that include visits to the BBC studios and art museums and participation in acting workshops. He wants students who create animated characters and make movies to understand the art of acting, and believes the workshops yield a team-building bonus as well.
When not in the classroom, Clasener spends most of his time playing with his daughter, Liza, and developing personal projects.
