Paul van Alphen joined Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam in September 1989 as a lecturer in offset printing for the print and media department and has gone on to handle various responsibilities for the school. He developed and implemented new curriculums for several departments. From 1999 to 2003, he taught printing technology for the Information and Communication Technologies department at the Rotterdam Academy. From 2004 to 2009, he established and managed an internship company for Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam. The company placed interns from many departments including Media Technology, Graphic Design, Multimedia Design, Animation and Games, Art and Design, Visualization, and Pre-Media and Media Management. Van Alphen is currently project manager for multidisciplinary teams. He provides guidance to educators and students on a range of projects throughout several departments.
In his spare time, Van Alphen serves as chairman of the Foundation O3 +, which seeks to implement various forms of "entrepreneurial learning" and sustainable vocational guidance programs for secondary education students. The foundation also facilitates face-to-face meetings between students and business professionals to encourage information and social exchange.
