Rick Toh has been a dedicated IT educator for more than 10 years. He is currently a lecturer at Temasek Informatics & IT School, Singapore, focusing on rich media development and interactive design. His expertise gives him the opportunity to use and teach Adobe products and technologies, including Adobe® Flash® Professional and ActionScript®, as well as open source Flex, on a daily basis. Toh enjoys experimenting with "new interactives" like motion, sound, and immersive interactions. He is constantly involved in leading or advising teams working on interactive media projects for both government and commercial agencies.
His current projects include the following:
Immersive Interactive Wall — Toh made use of Flash, ActionScript, and infra-red and motion sensing technologies to create an immersive experience for the user. He is currently leading student teams to create advertainment and edutainment solutions with it.
Xtreme webPortal — The portal is an IDM research initiative by Temasek Polytechnic. The web portal seeks to challenge conventional web portal design and to propose a new era of web portals that emphasize intelligent interactivity. Toh is one of the key architects for this project.
Rich Learning Management System — With the advancement of Flex technologies, many websites have evolved into rich media applications. Toh proposes the development of a Rich Learning Management System (RLMS) that uses Flex technologies to enhance the learning and teaching experiences for both learners and teachers. This project is geared for the open source community.
Toh is a proud father of two boys. He enjoys spending time with them in hope that he might catch some of their childlike zest and wonder. Toh has a degree in Computer Science and is also an Adobe Certified Associate for Web Communication and Rich Media Communication.
