Russell Stannard is a principal teaching fellow at the University of Warwick. He runs teachertrainingvideos.com, which has become one of the biggest resources for teachers to learn about using technology in their teaching, especial in the area of languages.
In 2008, he won the prestigious Outstanding Initiative in ICT Award from the Times Higher newspaper UK, beating Oxford University in the process. In the same year he won the Excellence in Teaching and Learning award from the University of Westminster. In 2009, TEFL.net, the Independent Online Resource Network for English Teachers, honored his website as its Site of the Year. In 2010, he received the British Council English Language Teaching Innovation award.
Stannard has more than 6,000 followers on Twitter and writes a monthly newspaper that has over 2,000 subscribers. His website often gets more than 1,000 hits a day. He is well known for his work in social networking and open educational resources.
Stannard's work first entered the public domain in 2006 when he wrote about the use of screen capture software to provide feedback to students. The article received national press coverage in the UK and led to a government report, an appearance on TV in France, and conference presentations all over the world.
