Dr. Tsong-Zen Liu is director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Development and associate professor in the Department of Food and Beverage Management at the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (formerly National Kaohsiung Hospitality College) in Taiwan. He also serves as CEO of the university's Teaching and Learning Excellence Project.
He obtained his BSc from the Department of Power Mechanical Engineering, National Tsing Hua University, in 1987. He achieved his MSc and PhD from the Institute of Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering, National Sun Yat-sen University, in 1992 and 1997. His research interests cover automatic controls and neural networks, hospitality information system analysis, e-commerce applications, eLearning content development, and digital archive applications.
While at the university, Liu has revamped the school library into a digital and open center for study and research and served as director of the computer center, creating a friendly eLearning environment at the school. He is currently managing the university's hospitality technology research center supported by a Taiwan Ministry of Education grant.
As a progressive tourism and hospitality management educator, Liu achieved the hospitality educator certificate, the highest honor for hospitality teachers issued by the American Hotel & Lodging Association. He also completed curriculums for the Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) programs and passed five different ACA exams. He is now a proctor of ACA certification exams.
Liu's publications focus on neural network control experiments, studies of the hospitality industry, library studies of hospitality education, and eLearning studies of hospitality education.
