Brian Trainor spent 15 years in the corporate communications and performance improvement industries before starting a career in education. This enables him to bring a "real world" perspective to the high school learning environment, where he teaches design theory, brand/logo design, traditional illustration, digital photography, and design for print. He maintains educational licenses in Marketing Education, Design and Visual Communications, Assistant Principal/Principal, and Vocational/Technical Superintendent.
Trainor serves as the cochair of the committee responsible for the Massachusetts Design and Visual Communications (DVC) curriculum framework, the required guide for all DVC teachers in the state. In 2008, he created a series of professional development workshops that address their unique needs. The DVC workshops focus on the combined skills reflected in the curriculum framework and the Adobe Certified Associate learning objectives. They enable teachers to share best-practices experiences and lesson plans and have resulted in high success rates for students who take the Adobe Certified Associate exams for Visual Communications and Rich Media.
The DVC workshops led to the creation of a recognition event for Massachusetts DVC students. The DVC Honors Night, developed in partnership with Adobe, will provide creative high school students throughout the state with a venue to showcase their talents and technical skills once a year at Adobe's facility in Waltham, Massachusetts.
