"I always have good days — some days are just better than others!"

Marina View School is a Full Primary, Year 1 to 8, with an enrollment of 700 plus students ranging from 5 to 13 years old. Colin Gover is the systems administrator and has responsibility for the ICT professional development of the staff and ongoing ICT curriculum development and teacher training. In addition, he teaches five classes twice a week for ICT for students in Years 7 and 8.

He is continually pushing the boundaries of ICT and its integration into the current New Zealand curriculum, and this has resulted in the school being recognized as a leader in ICT innovation and best practices. With the support of the principal and management, as well as the board of trustees and the teachers, he has created an exciting ICT program for the whole school.

The most exciting project of late has been the creation of MVTV. The idea began four years ago and has grown into a show that broadcasts three mornings a week. The “LIVE” 15-minute show is viewed by the school community, teachers, and parents. It’s then posted to the school website where they have a worldwide audience.

Over the past eight years, Gover has been a regular presenter at conferences within New Zealand, including Ulearn and Learning @ School. He has presented at the ACEC Conference in Australia, worked with ACTF, held workshops in Melbourne, and is returning to Canberra later this year to present further workshops.

Gover has requests from many schools to run professional development workshops. He endeavors to take his students with him as tutors. A number of his students have also helped him to run workshops at conferences, such as the Ulearn Conference in Auckland.
