Eva LaMar is her middle school’s One-to-One Laptop Initiative coordinator, helping teachers integrate technology into the classroom, training staff, helping students learn, developing web pages, and providing technology support.
With nearly 90% of the school’s students at or below the federal poverty level, LaMar hopes to motivate at-risk learners by focusing on the power of compelling and dynamic digital content built into well-designed lessons. She provides teachers long-term training and support so they have a chance to integrate new skills into their evolving curriculum — and so students can be fortified with 21st century skills that may open the door to future academic and professional opportunities.
In addition, LaMar is codirector of the Geo-Literacy Project, which offers curriculum, compelling projects, and the global Internet stage to schools worldwide. The Geo-Literacy Project has been recognized by the George Lucas Educational Foundation, and by other organizations and universities, as an exemplary model for technology integration.
A former ESL and gifted education teacher (14 years) and senior trainer for the Intel Teach to the Future program (four years), LaMar also consults and trains across the United States on the integration of digital media with project-based and service-learning activities. Her presentations include workshops and sessions at various local, state, regional, and national educational and technology conferences.
