Gary Martin teaches at the Da Vinci Academy in Hall County, Georgia. He has been teaching for just six years but was selected two years ago as one of only six educators honored with the challenge of forming the academic core for Da Vinci Academy. He teaches five technology classes that range from web design, GIS, and visual design to video production and communication design. In addition, he leads a general technology course for sixth graders at the nearby World Language Academy for students who primarily speak Spanish or Chinese. Last year, 63 of his 80 students became the youngest ever to earn Adobe Certified Associate status for Adobe® Photoshop®.
Prior to teaching, Martin earned a BS in Computer Science but was unhappy working as a programmer. He then became a business owner but found over time that running a service business did not nourish his heart. After five years, he sold his interest in the business and earned an MS in Business Education at the University of Georgia. He began teaching middle school, a venture that fulfills his requirements for a rewarding career.
