Jim Carleton has been a classroom teacher for 24 years. Presently he is the information, communication, and technology consultant at the Simcoe County District School Board in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Carleton is passionate about using technology to connect students together globally to make a difference in the world. He has won numerous local and national awards for his work in using ICT to connect students from around the world in meaningful projects These awards include the Network of Innovative Schools Technology Award, the Learning Partnership’s National Award for Innovation in Technology, and the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario Award for Excellence in Multimedia. He is also the corecipient of the Excellence in Teaching with Technology Award from the Educational Computing Organization of Ontario. Carleton is the country coordinator for the Canadian division of the International Education and Resource Network (iEARN) and also a member of several organizations that focus on global collaboration and responsible use of ICT.
Carleton, along with his teaching partner Mali Bickley, has had the privilege and honor of being able to travel around the world, promoting how information and communications technologies can be used to transform the way we teach and learn. One of his most memorable experiences was being able to deliver one of the keynote addresses at the 2008 NECC Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
