"The world is not how we think it is or how it seems. We can and should change it if we use adequate means."

—Jürgen Liefke

Jürgen Liefke teaches at Alfred-Krupp Schüle in Essen, Germany. When he grew up years ago, knowledge about the world was hard to acquire. Communicating with people from around the world to learn a foreign language was nearly impossible, due to high cost and the lack of means to make it possible. "Wisdom” was the result of having books in reach and at hand. Jürgen remembers well that kids at school quickly grasped the content in the books they read only when the book design was welcoming, interesting, and met real needs. He feels that today’s books are less in reach than in in the last century, due to the appeal of digital devices such as computers, tablets, and cell phones.

Jürgen believes that an educator’s job today is to pass on all the wisdom one has acquired to the next generation. Today software is the environment that helps to share knowledge. The wide range of Adobe software covers the whole process of designing the kind of content that appeared on bookshelves. Today it helps kids choose books, and educators must ensure that electronic books provide appropriate content.

As a foreign language teacher for French and English, he needs to be able to create his own interactive worksheets that allow students to listen to and comment on foreign language content. InDesign and other Adobe applications in the Creative Suite give him the tools to design worksheets in a way that appeals to today’s kids. His materials are attractive and as easy to access as a book off the shelf.  Jürgen also uses the Acrobat.com service, making it even easier to share content with people around the world.
