“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience our world.”
— David Warlick
Laurens Derks is employed by the New South Wales Department of Education, Technology for Learning Directorate to support the implementation of a Bring Your Own Device Policy and create training resources for teachers. With the rollout of Adobe® Connect™ department-wide, Derks regularly presents using the web conferencing software, giving teachers and school leaders advice on best practices.
Derks previously held the position of head teacher for ICT integration at Canley Vale High School in South Western Sydney, Australia. The school offered him the position because of the reputation he earned the year before with the Digital Education Revolution, training teachers how to embed technology into their teaching and learning. Teachers frequently requested his full-day workshops on Adobe Captivate®, Adobe Premiere® Pro, and Photoshop®. His previous five years of experience working with special-needs teenagers gave him many insights for the project.
Derks is passionate about empowering teachers and students with the tools to create dynamic 21st century media.
