“Life is good for only two things, discovering mathematics and teaching mathematics.”
— Simeon Poisson
Lex McBean is head of the Mathematics Department at Forest Lake State High School, a position he has held since the school opened in 2001. While mathematics is his passion, he has also studied and taught science and information technology. He believes that technology can be a powerful tool for demonstrating the beauty and elegance of mathematics to students, leading to a more numerate society, and maybe even a few more mathematicians.
McBean obtained his Bachelor of Applied Science in Mathematics (with distinction) from the Queensland University of Technology. He won the University Medal for Science in his graduating year. He subsequently obtained post-graduate qualifications in teaching and computer education.
As an educational administrator, McBean also believes that creative technologies will help fire the passion and skills of the next wave of educators, who will use them to shape the creative minds of the future.
