Michael Sawyer focuses his efforts on academic integration and staff development, which he finds to be critical in making the great investment of technology worthwhile in education. He developed an online training system to prepare teachers for the Florida Effective Educator Practice #12 that aligned with the International Standards for Technology Education. He has also designed and implemented a paperless network environment for teachers and students to collaborate using a lab and two computer classroom environments.
Sawyer created an intranet website to track student data and to assist teachers and administrators in targeting students' needs to ensure growth. The website also tracks students' data to predict the school's grade according to the Florida School Grades system and adequate yearly progress.
He has provided numerous staff development training, ranging from developing basic computer skills to creating dynamic websites. He trained a team of technology specialists to create a database-driven staff development website for the school district that included interactive tutorials using ActionScript®. Sawyer has been a workshop presenter at the Florida Education Technology Conference every year since 2004.
Sawyer holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Science Education (6-12), a Master's in Instructional Technology Design, and a Master's Certificate in Educational Leadership. He is Florida Certified in Social Science (6-12), Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum, and Educational Leadership.
