"An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you know and what you don't."
— Anatole France
Pete MacKay has over 22 years of teaching experience in Alberta across all grade levels, all of which have had a technology-based approach. Currently seconded to the 2Learn.ca Education Society from Edmonton Public Schools, he applies his experience to professional development activities for teachers across the province.
MacKay's last classroom work involved high school web design from the viewpoint of a freelance designer and applied all his lessons with the intention that his students could do the same. Even if they were to enter another career, they often came away with skills that either helped them in their work or paid for their education.
In its 14th year, MacKay's blog, The Teacher List, helps thousands of ed-tech contacts around the world with a daily recommendation of one free web-based tool that is useful to teachers. In 2007, he received the Alberta Excellence in Teaching/SMARTer Kids Foundation Innovative Use of Technology Award and in the spring of 2012, became part of the new Adobe Master Teachers initiative in Alberta. MacKay is well versed in Adobe® Photoshop®, Dreamweaver®, Illustrator®, InDesign®, and Acrobat® and uses Adobe Creative Suite® 6 Master Collection daily in his work as an educator and web designer.
