"In learning and teaching with technology, it's all about the learning and the processes students go through — not about the technology and the products."
Rick Reece, an instructional technology specialist for the Broward County Department of Instructional Technology, is responsible for developing staff and maintaining the department website and the Broward Enterprise Education Portal. He has spent most of his career with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, managing the Education Portal, functioning as district webmaster, and providing technology training. Prior to his district positions, Reece taught senior language arts courses and, after receiving his Master's degree in Computer Science Education, began teaching computer and web-related courses at the high school and university levels.
Reece is proudest of his work developing and coordinating Web Academies in 12 Florida high schools. Web Academy student teams use Adobe's digital design curriculum and software to create websites for nonprofit and community organizations, learning web design, communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
Reece conducts workshops at the Florida Educational Technology Conference (FETC), the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC), and the ISTE Tel-Ed Conference. He is also a part-time trainer for Apple Professional Development and is delighted to have been named both an Adobe Education Leader and an Apple Distinguished Educator.
