TJ Fletcher recently joined TIES as an education technology coordinator. TIES is a consortium of 38 Minnesota school districts offering cutting-edge software applications, hardware, Internet services, and professional development. TIES district members represent around 400 schools.
Prior to his new position, Fletcher taught chemistry and web development to high school students, promoting collaboration while creating and deploying innovative digital media and interactive learning resources. He encouraged his chemistry students to work as a true scientific community, communicating and collaborating both inside and outside of class. Fletcher also consults and trains nationwide on the application of digital media, web development, and game design in the classroom.
He has produced several chemistry-related interactive tutorials, demonstrations, and simulations using Adobe® Flash® software. He also uses, in his classes and elsewhere, Adobe Dreamweaver®, Fireworks®, Acrobat® Connect™, and Apple iLife.
In 2000, Fletcher’s ThinkQuest Internet Challenge team, comprising three former students, won the Platinum Prize in science and mathematics. He regularly presents at conferences including the National Educational Computing Conference and the TIES Educational Technology Conference.
