Supply chain
Adobe is one of the largest providers of software in the world. We employ global third-party, turnkey companies to replicate, build, and assemble our products. Although we do not own these operations, we have a tremendous opportunity to positively impact environmental sustainability efforts by encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly practices that include recycling waste materials, increasing the use of recycled materials, and complying with environmental regulations such as RoHS in China and the EU WEEE Directive, among others.
Sourcing environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing
In 2006, Adobe joined the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) and adopted the coalition's Code of Conduct as Adobe’s framework for implementing its own supply chain social responsibility program. The EICC's vision is that "through the application of high standards, member companies can create better social, economic, and environmental outcomes for all those involved in the supply chain."
The EICC's Code of Conduct consists of five core areas of supply chain social responsibility: labor, health and safety, environmental, management systems, and ethics. As part of EICC requirements, Adobe commits to helping ensure that working conditions in its global supply chain are safe, that workers are treated with respect and dignity, and that manufacturing processes are environmentally responsible. Adobe achieves these goals, in part, through the use of various implementation tools that are available to members of the EICC.
Adobe has reviewed the ISO 14001 standards that guide environmental practices within the manufacturing process. After careful consideration, we have determined that the majority of ISO 14001 environmental standards are not applicable to Adobe's operations at this time. The standards apply primarily to large manufacturing organizations and are specific to particular products, materials, and processes.
A commitment to green procurement
On a broader level, Adobe has instituted a Green Products Purchasing Policy to make environmental performance a factor in all its purchasing decisions, along with product performance and cost. Adobe looks for biodegradable products and products that contain post-consumer recycled content; cleaning chemicals that meet minimum Green Seal standards for cleaning; and appliances, office equipment, and vehicles that carry the EPA Energy Star label.
