What kinds of distribution and revenue models do Flash technologies enable?

Next-generation television opens new opportunities for distributing, tracking, and building businesses around media assets. From simple licensing deals for repurposed broadcast video content to interactive viewing experiences in which users can click on objects in a movie scene to get more information or purchase them, the possibilities are limited only by your imagination.

Adobe Media Player interface
Adobe Media Player features a catalog that allows users to subscribe to their favorite programs.

Adobe Media Player

New Adobe® Media Player software leverages the Emmy Award-winning Adobe Flash® architecture to deliver streaming, progressive download, and protected download content for viewing online and offline. Adobe Media Player is free, has a small digital footprint, and runs on Mac, Windows®, and Linux® operating systems. Adobe Media Player supports individual file downloads, double-click to play scenarios, and RSS subscription-based delivery.

Flexible advertising models. Adobe Media Player allows users to download videos with persistent advertising content that can be refreshed and updated so it doesn't get stale as the video ages. New capabilities offer content branding, ad insertion, and ad caching, enabling content providers to capture new revenue sources using existing media assets as those assets are viewed online or offline.

Central Video Catalog. Subscription-driven delivery and a central catalog of video content can be used to promote new shows, attracting and maintaining viewer attention. These key features coupled with the easy-to-understand interface of Adobe Media Player can translate into increased revenues and viewer loyalty.

Customized branding. Broadcast and media companies can add network or program branding as a banner at the top of the show listing or as a watermark behind the listing and viewing area. Brand assets can be built using creative staples such as Adobe Photoshop® CS3, Illustrator® CS3, and Flash CS3 Professional and provided in standard formats, giving users a complete branded experience.

Digital rights management

Adobe currently offers protected streaming to Adobe Flash Player through Flash Media Server. Content integrity protection, available in Adobe Media Player, also enables free, ad-supported content models, while user-based protection supports assigned or purchased content models.

“We are looking forward to collaborating with Adobe to deliver diverse content from PBS's award-winning cultural, science, history, and news and public affairs programming to the desktop with Adobe Media Player. Bringing this state-of-the-art educational content to more people is critical, given PBS's mission.”
