- What are Adobe Web Fonts?

Adobe Web Fonts are a subset of the Adobe® Type Library that have been carefully developed to look great on screens and easily deployed on websites. (See the list of Adobe Web Fonts.)
Adobe Web Fonts allow designers and developers to go beyond web-safe fonts but keep type that is searchable, easily edited, and easily switched to other fonts. Adobe Web Fonts are delivered dynamically to your site by the Adobe Typekit® or Extensis® WebINK font hosting service, resulting in a richer experience for your viewers, often with improved performance.

- What is Typekit?

Adobe Typekit provides a subscription-based font service for web designers and developers. With a Typekit account, you have access to a library of fonts that you can use on just about any web site. Typekit offers the complete collection of Adobe Web Fonts as well as web fonts from dozens of other participating foundries.
- How does the Typekit service work?

After you’ve created a Typekit account, you choose the fonts you want to use and add two short lines of JavaScript code to your web pages. You can then control the display of those fonts by adding selectors or using Typekit font-family names in your style sheets. The Typekit service handles all the rest, including updating fonts as improvements are made and adding, maintaining, and improving compatibility with web browsers. - Which browsers are supported?
- How are web fonts different from Cufón or siFR?

Cufón and Scalable Inman Flash Replacement (sIFR) are earlier solutions to bring typography to the web using methods other than @font-face. They give designers some control at the cost of flexibility. Adobe Web Fonts use the CSS @font-face rule supported by modern browsers. Web pages remain completely text-based, with font names applied to HTML text using a method similar to one used for system fonts like Arial and Verdana. A text-based solution is great for search engine optimization, accessibility, translations, and copy-and-paste functionality.
- What if I hand-code my web site?

With WebINK, web fonts are integrated using the standard CSS @font-face rules. If you are familiar with the basics of CSS, you can easily integrate Adobe Web Fonts into your website with the Extensis WebINK service. Using the Typekit service, you include two lines of JavaScript code that enable and retrieve your web fonts. With either method, you can include font names in your CSS font stacks or use a CSS class name anywhere in your markup. You can use either service when working on your local machine or in your development environment.
- Will using Adobe Web Fonts slow down my website?

When you add Adobe Web Fonts to your website, they are hosted on some of the fastest servers on the Internet. Both the WebINK and Typekit services feature global, distributed networks with fonts hosted in multiple locations across the globe and carefully maintained for optimal performance.
- What happens if the fonts don’t load?

Adobe Web Fonts are served by the Typekit and WebINK services from redundant data centers worldwide to help ensure fonts are always available. In the unlikely event of an outage, your website’s text is rendered with fallback fonts specified in your CSS font stack.
