After 25 years and 13 releases, the Photoshop team has done it again. The 14th major release of Photoshop — Adobe Photoshop CC — is packed with dozens of new and reinvented features and capabilities as well as improved workflows.
In the following video, I demonstrate three of my favorite new features: Smart Sharpen, Intelligent Upsampling, and Camera Shake Reduction. Before we dive in, here's a brief description of each.
In this video, I show you the new features in Photoshop CC mentioned in this article. Wait for the bonus feature at the end for all you designers out there. (5:20)
With all-new Smart Sharpen, you get better results with a single click than you ever got before. As the name implies, Smart Sharpen is smart about how it sharpens your images. It looks for the areas that should be sharper and contain more detail without over-sharpening areas that shouldn't be as sharp.
A common practice is image upsampling. While it's great to have a multi-megapixel image for print, in some cases clients provide you with smaller images that are fine for the web but lack the resolution to make a decent print. The new algorithms in Image Size will give you much sharper results when you need to take a smaller image and make it larger.
I don't know any photographer who hasn't taken a picture that is out of focus. While there can be many causes for a blurry photo, Photoshop CC now addresses one of the most common reasons, which is camera shake. The subject was perfectly still, but the camera shook just enough to cause the image to appear out of focus. Instead of deleting those images, you can give the new Shake Reduction filter a shot and achieve amazing results.
