Overview of Flash Lite testing features (Flash Professional only)

The Flash Lite testing features in Flash Professional 8 consist of two components: the Flash Lite emulator and the Device Settings dialog box. The Flash Lite emulator lets you preview your Flash Lite content within the Flash authoring tool. The emulator is configured to match the behavior and, optionally, the appearance of any target device. You use the Device Settings dialog box to select and manage your target devices, as well specify your application's target Flash Lite content type, such as ringtone, browser, or stand-alone application.

A more detailed discussion of each of these components follows.

The Flash Lite emulator lets you preview your Flash Lite content as it will function and appear on an actual device. The emulator also contains controls that let you select a different test device and change the level of debugging information that the emulator generates. The emulator displays debugging messages in the Output panel to help you troubleshoot problems with your content.

The Device Settings dialog box lets you select the test devices and Flash Lite content type that you are targeting. Each combination of test device and Flash Lite content type defines a device configuration that specifies what features are available to your application, such as supported audio formats, ability to make network connections, and other features. When you test your application, the emulator displays messages in the Output panel if your application uses features that are not available on the target device.
