- What is Macromedia On Demand?
-
Macromedia On Demand is a library of anytime, anywhere online seminars available on our website. On Demand seminars feature multimedia presentations and demos that help users evaluating Macromedia products get up to speed quickly.
- What are the system requirements for On Demand?
-
First, you’ll need the latest version of Macromedia Flash Player (6,0,65,0 or later). Next, you’ll also need a high-bandwidth connection (DSL, cable Modem, LAN) to view On Demand content. Please turn off any pop-up blocking software as On Demand runs in a larger pop-up window. Some customers behind firewalls or proxy servers may also be unable to connect. You can learn more about this issue at the Macromedia Flash Communication Server Support Center .
- What technologies were used when building On Demand?
-
On Demand was built primarily with Macromedia Flash MX 2004, Macromedia Flash Communication Server, and Macromedia ColdFusion MX. The content is currently built using Macromedia Flash MX 2004 and Macromedia Breeze, along with some third-party tools. We’ll also be publishing an article on Macromedia DevNet that will provide a more in-depth, “under the hood” look at On Demand.

- How were the videos of the speakers created?
-
The presenter video modules were created using a multi-step process. We shot Jaime, Mike and Greg on bluescreen in our studio. We shot the sessions with 'prosumer' grade MiniDV cameras, and used both a lavalier and a shotgun mike to capture audio. Once the shoots were done, we reviewed and logged the footage and captured the best takes into our non-linear editor (NLE) via firewire. These were then edited and keyed using standard NLE and compositing tools. Once the matte was created, we put in a white background that matched the background of the Flash movie for transparent integration within the main Flash presentation. The video object (.flv) itself is only 300x300 or so and plays seamlessly within the larger Flash movie. We used the .flv exporter available from Macromedia here: http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/flash/video.html We compressed these at a data rate of 192kbs in order to provide a good viewing experience at fairly low data rates, but this is still a broadband experience. The finished .flv's were then handed off and incorporated into the presentation by the Flash developer.
