MACROMEDIA DELIVERS EBUSINESS SOLUTIONS AT INTERNET WORLD
New products, cross-product integration, and industry partnership simplify Web Content Lifecycle

Spring Internet World 2000, Los Angeles, California—April 5, 2000—Macromedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: MACR) today announced a series of solutions and a new industry partnership that address the Macromedia Web Content Lifecycle. Macromedia will help eliminate difficulties enterprises face in integrating point solutions to build, manage, personalize, and analyze dynamic Web content while engaging customers on complex, business-critical Web sites.

Today’s product announcements at Internet World deliver on key areas of the Web Content Lifecycle Macromedia announced in October for bringing integrated Web solutions to the enterprise, namely content authoring, analysis, and personalization. Macromedia Dreamweaver, the leading professional visual Web content authoring platform that accounted for 69 percent of North American sales in February, according to PC Data, is at the core of all but one of the announcements.

Macromedia today at Internet World will preview a future product, code-named UltraDev. Built on the Dreamweaver core architecture, this new product will bring the familiar Dreamweaver visual interface to the authoring of dynamic, data-driven Web applications. The upcoming Web application development environment will be the only solution built to develop and view live data, and edit ASP, JSP, or Cold Fusion Web applications in a single design environment.

Macromedia Dreamweaver Objects for ARIA consist of drag and drop objects that allow content developers in Dreamweaver to add measurement and analysis functionality while they are creating content. This intelligent content can then be tracked later by Macromedia ARIA, saving companies the expense and disruption of retrofitting sites to measure return on investment (see separate release).

The company also today announced Macromedia LikeMinds eMail (see separate release), which allows personalization to be extended to the inbox. LikeMinds eMail adds relevancy to e-mail campaigns by tailoring messages individually to a target audience of one, leading to increased response, retention, conversion rates, and ultimately to an increase in return on investment.

A partnership with ATG (see separate release) integrates Macromedia Dreamweaver for Web authoring, LikeMinds for real-time personalization, and ARIA for site analysis with the ATG Internet personalization and e-commerce solution platform. ATG, Documentum, and other e-business solution providers will also benefit from the Macromedia Project Whirlwind APIs, which provide a standard mechanism for flowing content into and out of content management systems.

"Macromedia’s design, display, personalization, and analysis offerings form the basis for a truly holistic approach that the industry sorely needs today," said the Hurwitz Group, an independent research and consulting firm specializing in e-business strategies.

The Hurwitz Group comments were part of a white paper, commissioned by Macromedia and released today, validating Macromedia’s Web Content Lifecycle strategy. The white paper is available at http://www.macromedia.com/go/hurwitz_whitepaper.
