Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas, NVJanuary
7, 2002Moxi Digital, Inc. (formerly Rearden
Steel Technologies, Inc.), a developer of advanced
platforms and products for enhanced home entertainment,
and Macromedia, Inc. (NASDAQ:MACR), today announced
that Macromedia
Flash Player 5 is a key component of Moxi's new
entertainment platform, the Moxi Media Center.
Moxi, which also today unveiled the details of its
product strategy and vision for dramatically enhancing
and improving the home entertainment experience, will
integrate the Macromedia Flash Player 5 throughout
its entire platform including its user interface,
the Moxi Media Guide, and core entertainment applications.
Moxi also plans to apply its software and hardware
expertise to innovatively use Macromedia Flash for
its media rich, intuitive, real-time user interface
complete with advanced graphic effects. Since Macromedia
Flash is central to the platform, graphic designers
and user interface designers can develop for the Moxi
Media Center using the software with which they are
already familiar to create cost-effective customized
user experiences. The relationship between the two
companies enables the more than one million members
of the Macromedia Flash developer community to easily
create unique applications for Moxi's new home entertainment
platform.
"The Moxi Media Center is the first platform
to allow cable and satellite providers and content
companies to utilize the user interface as a marketing,
branding and entertainment vehicle. By integrating
Macromedia Flash into our advanced platform, we're
able to accelerate the development of our applications
in addition to offering our partners the ability to
easily create rich, customized experiences for their
subscribers," said Steve Perlman, founder, president,
and chief executive officer of Moxi Digital, Inc.
"We're committed to partnering with category
leading providers like Macromedia in order to offer
the highest possible level of service and flexibility."
"The broad integration of Macromedia Flash across
the Moxi platform clearly attests to the strength,
versatility, and ease-of-use provided by Macromedia
Flash," said Kevin Lynch, chief software architect,
Macromedia. "Moxi has developed an exciting next
generation entertainment platform that takes advantage
of Macromedia Flash to quickly deliver rich, intuitive
applications. This agreement clearly demonstrates
the commitment of both organizations to advancing
interactive technology and transforming the user experience."
From a customer perspective, the integration of Macromedia
Flash throughout the Moxi Media Center provides Moxi's
partners a flexible platform for delivering revenue-generating
applications to consumers. In addition to being able
to easily author new content, either themselves or
by working with third party developers, partners can
easily develop Macromedia Flash content for delivering
an incredibly rich and highly customized interactive
experience to consumers including: quickly and easily
developing unique and dynamic user interfaces or skins;
creating branded environments within the Moxi Media
Guide; and integrating relevant e-commerce opportunities
(i.e. up-sell a consumer the new DVD movie of their
favorite actor).
The licensing agreement between Moxi Digital and
Macromedia expands upon the existing relationship
that began last year when Macromedia participated
in Moxi's first round of funding through an investment
from Macromedia Ventures.
