San FranciscoMay 29, 2002Macromedia,
Inc. (Nasdaq: MACR) today announced the immediate
availability of an all-new product, Macromedia
Studio MX, the essential suite of integrated tools
for developing the full spectrum of Internet solutions,
from simple HTML to the emerging class of rich Internet
applications. Macromedia Studio MX combines the latest
versions of market-leading Macromedia tools to provide
developers with a streamlined, integrated product
family focused on increasing developer productivity
and return on investment. More than 2.4 million designers
and developers already use a combination of the previous
releases of the products available in the studio.
Macromedia Studio MX includes Macromedia
Dreamweaver MX (shipping today, see
separate release), Macromedia
Flash MX, Macromedia
Fireworks MX (shipping today, see
separate release), Macromedia
FreeHand 10, and a developer edition of Macromedia
ColdFusion MX Server (shipping today, see
separate release). The studio, with introductory
pricing of $799, is available for immediate purchase
from the Macromedia Online Store (http://www.macromedia.com/go/buystudiomx/).
All of the individual products are also shipping today
individually.
Macromedia Studio MX delivers a completely integrated
experience. It offers common user interface standards
and a consistent workflow to accelerate developer
productivity. The consistent user interface elements
include color management, drawing tools, code editing,
a common property inspector, and panel management
to make it seamless when moving between applications.
vFive (www.vfive.com/),
a Macromedia Alliance member, used the products in
Macromedia Studio MX to build the Boreal Mountain
Resort website and its complementary rich Internet
application, the MountainLink. The application features
updated weather, ski lift status, mountain trail maps,
video packs, and current news. By creating interactive
elements with Macromedia Flash MX, dynamic pages with
Dreamweaver MX, and optimized graphics with Fireworks
MX, vFive was able to dramatically reduce development
time for both the website and the application. The
MountainLink application takes advantage of new capabilities
in Macromedia Flash Player 6 to store data locally,
which reduces the amount of bandwidth required and
allows information to be viewed when the user is disconnected
from the Internet. A ColdFusion MX content management
system allows the client to easily keep the content
on the site current.
"For projects like the Boreal Mountain Resort
website and the MountainLink, Macromedia Studio MX
makes the entire development process faster and easier,"
said Brian Ghidinelli, technology director, vFive.
"Dreamweaver MX simplifies our workflow, as both
our designers and developers now work together in
a consistent development environment. The cross-product
integration between Macromedia Flash MX and Dreamweaver
MX reduces development time while the support in Macromedia
Flash MX for standard components like scrollbars and
list boxes, as well as video support, creates a better
user experience for our projects."
Macromedia Dreamweaver MX enables developers to both
design and code the full spectrum of solutions from
websites to Internet applications. Macromedia Flash
MX, which began shipping in March, enables the development
of rich Internet applications and content that deliver
the best user experiences with significant return
on investment. Macromedia Fireworks MX provides the
easiest way to create, optimize, and export interactive
graphics in a single, web-centric environment. Macromedia
FreeHand 10 provides customers with advanced illustration
tools and a quick way to create vector illustrations
for print, web, and Macromedia Flash. The developer
edition of Macromedia ColdFusion MX is a non-expiring,
full-featured edition that works on a single computer
to enable customers to develop rich Internet applications.
