General Information

What is being announced?
On December 19, 2003 Macromedia (NASDAQ: MACR) announced the completion of its acquisition of eHelp Corporation. Macromedia previously announced a definitive merger agreement to acquire eHelp on October 22, 2003.
Who is eHelp and what do they do?
eHelp Corporation is the market leader in help authoring and Flash-based software demonstration solutions. For more than twelve years, the privately-held, San Diego-based company has satisfied a breadth of customers ranging from enterprises to government agencies to large educational institutions. eHelp is most widely recognized for its flagship RoboHelp product, the industry-standard help authoring tool. In addition, eHelp's innovative RoboDemo product uses Flash to lead the category of demonstration software. eHelp Corporation is now a proud member of Macromedia.
Why did Macromedia acquire eHelp?
Web experiences are becoming more sophisticated and web applications now perform like traditional desktop software. Customer success with those applications requires comprehensive training and help components. Adding the category-leading help and training software from eHelp with the comprehensive Macromedia authoring family provides developers with everything they need to create and deliver the rich user assistance and tutorial content that are integral to great digital experiences.
Will eHelp still operate as it did prior to the acquisition?
The operations for eHelp products will remain in San Diego and continue to operate via its existing channels. eHelp CFO Anthony Olivier and the rest of the management team will continue to lead the business. eHelp founder and CEO Jorgen Lien will fulfill his personal goal to retire, and we congratulate him on all of his success over many years in building eHelp. eHelp is a strong, standalone business today and our first priority is to count on the existing leadership and all of its employees to continue to drive towards customer satisfaction, revenue, and profit goals.
How will this acquisition benefit eHelp customers?
eHelp customers are now a part of the Macromedia family of customers. They will benefit from having one company for all the development solutions they need. In the future, customers should see increased integration on top of what already exists between the current eHelp products and the Macromedia software family.
How will this acquisition benefit Macromedia customers?
Macromedia developers will now have a seamless way to create and deliver rich user assistance, demos, and tutorial content within the great digital experiences they build with Macromedia software. For instance, Macromedia customers already create a wealth of e-learning content that can benefit from the addition of eHelp technologies.

About eHelp’s RoboHelp and RoboDemo

What is RoboHelp?
RoboHelp is the industry standard tool in help authoring and has won more than 55 prestigious industry awards. RoboHelp makes it easy to create professional help systems for desktop applications (Windows, Mac, and Linux) and Web-based applications, including .NET. RoboHelp users can create and edit content in Microsoft Word, RoboHelp's built-in HTML editor, or any popular HTML editor such as Macromedia Dreamweaver. RoboHelp also now generates FlashHelp, a new format based on Flash that can dramatically advance user assistance for the desktop and for web-based applications.
Who is the target customer for RoboHelp?
RoboHelp is ideal for anyone who needs to create an online help system and printed documentation for desktop or web-based applications. The majority of RoboHelp users are developers, technical writers, and help authors.
How does RoboHelp work with Macromedia’s current products?
Developers using Macromedia products to build applications can use RoboHelp to easily create professional help systems and printed documentation for their applications. RoboHelp already allows developers to create help using Dreamweaver as the authoring environment.
Additionally, RoboHelp users can generate online help that takes advantage of the Flash file format and perfectly complements rich Internet applications. RoboHelp ships with a gallery of FlashHelp designs ("skins") that can be used as-is or further customized using Macromedia Flash or Flash Professional.
What is RoboDemo?
RoboDemo is an award-winning authoring tool for creating interactive software simulations and demonstrations delivered as Flash content. These simulations and demos are ideal for online training, demonstrating software products, providing user-support tutorials, or enhancing an online help system. RoboDemo records any running application, or other on-screen activity, and instantly creates a Flash simulation of the application, with visible and audible mouse clicks. Simulations created with RoboDemo can be easily enhanced by adding text captions and images, audio, text entry and click boxes, e-learning-specific features like quizzing, branching, and scoring, animations, and other effects. RoboDemo simulations are small file size and high resolution, making them ideal to post on the Web or an Intranet, burn on CD, integrate with courseware or a learning management system, and e-mail. Plus, RoboDemo simulations can be imported directly into Flash. This greatly simplifies Flash development of software simulations. RoboDemo recently won the prestigious 2003 Gold E-Learning Excellence Award from e-learning analyst firm brandon-hall.com.
Who is the target customer for RoboDemo?
RoboDemo is a professional product that can be used by customers with a wide range of technical skills. RoboDemo is used by a variety of departments within an organization, including corporate training, human resources, IT, technical support, sales and marketing, and software development. Specific target customers include corporate trainers and training managers, instructional designers, human resource professionals responsible for employee training, Flash developers, sales and marketing professionals, IT professionals, technical support specialists, help authors, and software developers.
Will the eHelp products retain their names?
Products will retain their names but the “eHelp” brand will be retired and replaced with Macromedia (i.e. eHelp RoboDemo will now become Macromedia RoboDemo). If there are future name changes, we will communicate the specifics to our partners and customers when appropriate.
