MACROMEDIA DEMOS FUTURE OF INSTANT ENTERPRISE COMMUNICATIONS
Instant messaging and web conferencing come together in technology preview
San Francisco, CA —June 15, 2004—Macromedia (Nasdaq: MACR) today will preview Macromedia Breeze integration with instant messaging at the IMlogic IM Linkage Industry Roundtable. Breeze leverages the ubiquity of Macromedia Flash Player to deliver "instant on" web conferencing. By typing a keyword in the messaging client, users can immediately enter a Breeze meeting to collaborate, share screens and documents, and interact with a shared whiteboard without any additional downloads. The technology preview illustrates how the Breeze system can be easily integrated with other enterprise applications. To see the Breeze demonstration, visit www.macromedia.com/go/breezeim.
"Today, inviting users to an online meeting requires all participants to install client software. In practice, would-be collaborators have to download client-side technologies before they can even start the online meeting," said Tom Hale, senior vice president and general manager, Macromedia. "The ubiquity of Flash allows users to fluidly escalate from instant messaging into an instant online Breeze meeting, without breaking the flow of communication."
The technology preview uses the extensibility layer of Breeze to securely create meetings, authenticate users, and send invitations to users communicating via any major IM client. This approach ensures companies can use their IM clients of choice and still benefit from the power of ubiquitous collaboration using Breeze, even across heterogeneous messaging environments.
The Breeze technology previewed today integrates with IMlogic IM Linkage, an enterprise-class IM application system, to enable Breeze to communicate to clients of all major IM networks.
"Instant messaging and presence are central to the convergence of disparate real-time collaborative technologies," said Francis de Souza, president and CEO, IMlogic. "Macromedia Breeze is capitalizing on the ubiquity of the Flash Player to create a vision for true real-time collaboration that marries web conferencing with the global public instant messaging services."
