Adobe product registration FAQ

Answers to commonly asked questions about product registration for Adobe software.

General registration information

How do I register my Adobe software?

There are several ways to register your software purchase with Adobe, depending on the product you are registering:

  • Adobe® Creative Suite® 2
A single registration screen is integrated in the Adobe Creative Suite 2 installer, and the process takes just a few seconds to complete. During installation, a registration screen — with your serial number automatically entered — will prompt you to provide just your country, name, and e-mail address, after which the information will be sent to Adobe via the Internet. If you aren't ready to register, you can choose to have the product remind you to register periodically. If you've already completed installation, choose Help > Registration from within any Adobe Creative Suite 2 component. Registering from within the product qualifies you to receive an additional complimentary registration benefit.
  • Adobe Photoshop® CS2, Illustrator® CS2, InDesign® CS2, GoLive® CS2, InCopy® CS2, or Acrobat® 7.0 Professional software
The first time you launch the application after it is installed, a single registration screen appears, and the process takes just a few seconds to complete. The registration screen — with your serial number automatically entered — will prompt you to provide additional registration information, after which the information will be sent to Adobe via the Internet. If you aren't ready to register, you can choose to have the product remind you to register periodically. If you've already completed installation, choose Help > Registration from within any Adobe CS2 application.

With the exception of Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional and Eastern European and Middle Eastern language versions of Adobe CS2 applications, registering your CS2 product from within the product qualifies you to receive an additional complimentary registration benefit.
  • Adobe Creative Suite 1.0
The first time you launch your Adobe CS 1.0 application after installation, you will be prompted to register online. The registration screen — with your serial number automatically entered — will prompt you to provide additional registration information. If you aren't ready to register, you can choose to have the product remind you to register periodically. If you've already completed installation, choose Help > Registration from within any Adobe CS application, which will launch your web browser and navigate to the Adobe Store for online registration. Your serial number will automatically be entered and you can follow the onscreen instructions. Alternatively, you can register by filling out and mailing the registration card found in the box.
  • Adobe Production Studio (applies to shipping languages only)
A single registration screen is integrated in the Adobe Production Studio installer, and the process takes just a few seconds to complete. During installation, a registration screen — with your serial number automatically entered — will prompt you to provide just your country, name, and e-mail address, after which the information will be sent to Adobe via the Internet. If you aren't ready to register, you can choose to have the product remind you to register periodically. If you've already completed installation, choose Help > Registration from within the application. Registering from within the product qualifies you to receive an additional complimentary registration benefit.
  • Adobe Encore® DVD 2.0, Adobe Premiere® Pro 2.0, or Adobe Audition® 2.0 software (applies to shipping languages only)
The first time you launch the application after it is installed, a single registration screen appears, and the process takes just a few seconds to complete. The registration screen — with your serial number automatically entered — will prompt you to provide additional registration information, after which the information will be sent to Adobe via the Internet. If you aren't ready to register, you can choose to have the product remind you to register periodically. If you've already completed installation, choose Help
    > Registration from within any application. Registering from within the product qualifies you to receive an additional complimentary registration benefit.

Visit the Elements registration FAQ page for product-specific registration steps and details.
  • Any other Adobe software product (for example, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop CS 1.0) and Macromedia branded products
For any other Adobe product, you can register online.
Why should I register my Adobe product?
Registering your purchased products is quick and easy and qualifies you for a wide range of benefits and notification of product announcements, updates, events, and special offers.
Is product registration related to product activation? Does activation replace registration?
Activation is completely separate from product registration, which is optional. Registration is for customers who want to receive information about product updates and other special offers from Adobe. In fact, the data for activation and registration reside on separate servers, and there is no linking of these separate sets of data. For more information on Adobe product activation, visit Adobe software activation. Adobe Open Options (volume software licensing) product registration
How do I register my software if I don't have Internet access?
You can also register your Adobe software by contacting Adobe Customer Service in your region. For Adobe Creative Suite 2 and CS2 applications, registration over the phone or by mail qualifies you for complimentary technical support, tips and tutorials on Resource Center, updates, and special offers, but does not qualify you for an additional complimentary registration benefit.
How does Adobe use my registration information?
Adobe uses registration information to provide you with relevant communications (if you opt in to receive such information) as well as personalized help when accessing Customer Service and technical support and when signing in to an Adobe website with your Adobe ID. Adobe does not rent, sell, or lease customer information to third parties. View the Adobe Online Privacy Policy.
What is an Adobe ID?
To sign in to the Adobe Store or to access tips and tutorials and Adobe Studio Exchange within Resource Center, you must have an Adobe ID. You also need your Adobe ID to access and update your account profile and communication preferences on the your account page of Adobe.com. You will also need an Adobe ID to take advantage of Adobe product complimentary complimentary benefits.
I already have an Adobe ID. Will I be assigned a new one when I register within the application?
If you already have an Adobe ID and the information you enter when registering your Adobe application matches the information in your Adobe ID account, the registration system will associate your new registration with your existing Adobe ID. If the information you enter does not match your existing Adobe ID account, the registration system will create a new account — and new Adobe ID — for you. This will typically be your e-mail address. If a new Adobe ID is assigned to you during the registration process, you will be prompted to create a password upon visiting certain areas of Resource Center, the Adobe Store, or to update your account information.
Can I update my information after I've already registered?
Yes. You can update your contact information or your communication preferences on the your account page of Adobe.com. You will need your Adobe ID (typically your e-mail address) and password to access your account information. If you don't know your password, follow the "forgot your password?" instructions.
I've already registered previous versions of my software. Do I need to register again once I upgrade or purchase new products?
Yes. To be eligible for complimentary technical support and any other product-specific benefits, you need to register each product version. In addition, knowing which version of software you own helps us provide you with relevant information when we communicate with you.
I bought my software online through the Adobe Store. Do I have to register in-product?
If you've purchased the Electronic Software Download (ESD) version of your Adobe software from the Adobe Store, your serial number is registered automatically and you are not required to register your product again. ESD registration of products does not qualify you to receive an additional complimentary registration benefit. If you've purchased the shrinkwrapped or volume license version of your Adobe software, your serial number is not automatically registered and you need to register using one of the methods outlined under "How do I register my Adobe software?" above.
I purchased Adobe Creative Suite and/or Adobe Production Studio. Do I have to register each individual component?
Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe Production Studio are single software products and only one registration is required.
I've already registered my product. Why am I required to also perform product activation?
