Experiencing
Life Through the Power of Flash
Picture
this. It's 7 a.m. and you've just ordered your favorite
morning brew at your corner coffee shop. While waiting
for your order to come up, you decide to catch up on
the latest local and world news and see what the weather
has in stock for the rest of the week. Instead of picking
up a newspaper, you pull out your new Flash Lite-enabled
mobile phone and tune in to FlashCast, a new breed of
subscription-based mobile data service that you can
access at the touch of a button.
You are greeted by an animated splash screen followed
by a graphically enhanced list of channels that provides
instant access to cached, automatically updated information
from around the world- everything from news to finance
to sports to entertainment. You scroll down to select
the news channel, and within a split second your screen
displays the latest news headlines and stories complete
with crisp front-page photos. You press the right arrow
key to switch to the next channel and an animated stock
ticker enables you to track the performance of your
personalized portfolio. You press the right arrow key
again and your screen brightens up with a colorful animation
displaying a sunny forecast for your hometown for the
next three days. You smile, pick up your order, and
wonder what it would be like to spend the day at the
beach instead of at work-lying in the sun while listening
to music and playing a Flash Lite game that you downloaded
the other day, which has garnered rave reviews for its
vivid, intuitive Flash-based user interface.
Flash technology makes it easy to deliver and consume
rich and compelling content and to create great user
experiences. More importantly, desktop computers are
not the only hardware platform capable of running Flash
applications anymore. Flash is rapidly becoming the
standard for delivering engaging content and powerful
applications across a broad variety of device platforms.
In addition to mobile phones and PDAs, you can see Flash
technology employed on digital billboards, in car navigation
systems, even Karaoke machines, among many other devices.
As an authoring application, its combination of ease
of use and powerful scripting simplifies the process
of creating a new generation of visually rich applications
and appeals to content developers worldwide. And because
Flash uses vector objects (mathematically defined lines
and shapes) rather than raster (pixels of differing
colors) technology, Flash content scales within device
categories across varying screen sizes without distortion.
Plus, Flash assets can be leveraged across all platforms.
This makes it easy to develop content for different
devices with different screen displays while dramatically
reducing development times and costs. Using the Flash
Player as the platform, developers can consistently
deploy engaging, rich content and applications across
mobile phones, media players, digital cameras, game
consoles, and full-size desktop workstations. All developers
need is a copy of the Flash authoring tool including
emulators and detailed documentation, as well as the
devices on which to test their applications. By leveraging
the Flash Platform ecosystem that includes the Flash
authoring tool, rendering engine, and an established
community of more than two million designers and developers,
Flash technology also reduces deployment costs and delivers
content and applications three to five times faster
than competing solutions.
With
a great range of presentation methods-including animation,
sound, and sophisticated interactivity-Flash is also
ideal for customized, branded user interfaces, portals,
advertising, games and information services that deliver
great mobile experiences and build brand equity. Not
surprisingly, the leading mobile handset manufacturers
have started integrating Flash into their mobile handsets
to enable a new generation of user interfaces and applications
that engage subscribers through interactivity, animation,
sound, and graphics, and, most importantly, are intuitive
and easy to use. After all, as a user, wouldn't you
prefer things just worked intuitively rather than dig
through a pile of documentation? With Flash, enhancing
the everyday lives of consumers by delivering great
digital experiences to mobile devices is no longer wishful
thinking-it's a reality that is only a click away.
