Inches globally, picas locally
Adobe® Illustrator® allows you to set global and document-specific units of measurement. In this clip from "Total Illustrator," Deke McClelland begins by showing you how to change Illustrator's units of measurement globally. The result is that the currently open document and all future documents will use the same system of measurement, be it pixels, points, or picas. Having established that, Deke then shows you how you can override that global system of measurement for a single open document. Follow Deke in merry measure!
