Since CS5.5, Adobe Audition has been based on a new underlying architecture, and Adobe has been adding the most requested features from version 3. Many of these are included in Adobe Audition CC, such as Pitch Bender, noise generation, CD burning, clip grouping, tone generation, the metronome, and support for Mackie and EUCON hardware control surface protocols, to name a few.

Adobe Audition CC offers a comprehensive and flexible audio toolset that is optimized for video workflows with Adobe Premiere Pro, such as cleaning up one or more assets or sending entire sequence timelines for remixing, recording ADR, or final mastering. With Adobe Audition CC, you can record multitrack sessions, edit audio files using sample-accurate tools, create original music using loops, mix as many audio tracks as your CPU can handle, create and edit 5.1 surround soundtracks, and work with powerful DSP and analysis tools, including AU and VST effects. Adobe Audition CC lets you save and export your audio to industry-standard formats for professional distribution, broadcast, and digital delivery.

Adobe Audition CC uses the SESX XML format as its session format. Adobe Audition CC will open Adobe Audition 3 sessions saved in XML format; however, due to differences between the formats, not all version 3 features will be compatible. Adobe Audition CC does not support the import or opening of legacy session files using the .SES extension, a binary format used in Adobe Audition 3 and earlier.

You can convert SES files to SESX using a third-party utility called Ses2Sesx, from AATranslator.
