Pricing and availability

What is the price of Director 11?: The estimated street price for Adobe Director 11 is US$999, and US$299 for the upgrade. Adobe has reduced the price of Director for this release. For information on upgrade options for Director, refer to upgrade details.
When can I purchase Director 11?: Director 11 will be available in English in March 2008. The French and German versions will be available in early April, and Japanese in early May.
Is educational pricing available for Director 11?: Director 11 for education is available at a discounted price to qualified educational end users. Visit the Adobe Store to learn more about our special prices for teachers and students.
Can I try Director 11 before I buy it?: A 30-day trial version of Director 11 in English will be available in March. French and German trial versions will be available in April, and the Japanese trial version will be available in May.

General authoring

Do I need both the Mac and Windows product versions to create cross-platform movies?: Director 11 enables you to create executables and Shockwave content for both Mac and Windows platforms from both the Mac version and the Windows version of the product. (Some restrictions apply; see TechNote #19190.) We recommend that you test your content on all platforms where you expect users to view it. In addition, you may need to debug your content on the target platform if you are creating content that has system level controls.
What media types does Director 11 support?: Director 11 is the industry leader in supporting multiple media types, with support for QuickTime video, Adobe Flash, bitmaps, text, vectors, sound, and 3D content, as well as streaming RealVideo and RealAudio.

Playback and distribution

How do people view Director content on the web?: Developers save their Director content as Shockwave movies viewable on the web. Users view this content from within all popular browsers using Adobe Shockwave Player.
How many people have Shockwave Player installed? How do they get it?: Today, most web users (more than 400 million) have Shockwave Player installed and can immediately view Shockwave content. Users can visit the Shockwave Player Download Center to easily download the latest software.
Can I distribute Shockwave Player with my Shockwave content?: Yes, developers who have created CD-ROM content that depends on either Adobe Flash Player or Shockwave Player technology are allowed to distribute the software themselves (rather than requiring customers to download them from the web). Does Director 11 create executable files?: Director 11 can create executables, called projectors. Director 11 enables you to create executables and Shockwave content for both Mac and Windows platforms from both the Mac and Windows versions of the product.
