FAQ
Product information
- What is Adobe InCopy CS3?
- Adobe® InCopy® CS3 software is a professional writing and editing program that tightly integrates with Adobe InDesign® CS3 software to deliver a complete solution for collaborative editorial workflow. InCopy CS3 includes workflow technology that enables designers and editors to work on the same InDesign CS3 document simultaneously without interfering with each other's work. InCopy CS3 is designed to scale to the needs of small, medium, and large content publishers. A shrinkwrapped version of InCopy is available directly from Adobe for small workgroups. Medium to large publishers can acquire powerful editorial solutions based on InCopy CS3 and InDesign CS3 from third-party developers and systems integrators. For more information, see purchasing options.
- What are the key new features and benefits of InCopy CS3?
- InCopy CS3 is packed with new and enhanced features. With new e-mail-based assignments for small workgroups, InCopy makes it easy to assign tasks and integrate contributions without the need for a shared server. A variety of document views and copyfitting tools help you write and edit to precisely fit your layout, and text-processing enhancements such as table and cell styles and more powerful Find/Change functionality enable you to work more productively than ever before. For more information on the full set of design, efficiency, and output features in InCopy CS3, see upgrade details.
- Who should use InCopy CS3?
- Writers and editors who work with designers and other external contributors to create magazines, newspapers, journals, catalogs, user guides, and text-heavy books will benefit from using InCopy CS3.
- Why is InCopy CS3 offered separately from the Adobe Creative Suite 3 editions?
- Professional editors are the primary users of InCopy CS3 and generally don't require the full functionality of Adobe Creative Suite® 3, while the designers they work with do. As a result, it makes sense to offer InCopy and the Creative Suite 3 editions separately. Designers can make full use of Adobe Creative Suite 3, while the editors they work with can easily integrate standalone InCopy CS3 with InDesign CS3 in a collaborative editorial workflow.
- How is InCopy CS3 relevant to graphic designers who are using InDesign for page layout and production?
- InCopy CS3 includes editorial workflow technology that enables designers and editors to work on the same InDesign CS3 document simultaneously without interfering with each other’s work. InCopy CS3 gives editors 100% accurate information about line breaks and up-to-the-minute visual feedback about page design, so editors can copyfit text with complete insight into how the copy and design interact. This support for parallel workflows reduces the number of review and revision cycles and ultimately streamlines the time it takes to get publications to market. It also puts copy-fitting control back in the hands of editors.
- Is a CCK (Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, and Korean) version of Adobe InCopy CS3 available?
- Yes, Adobe has introduced a CCK version of InCopy CS3 that integrates tightly with the CCK version of InDesign CS3. InCopy CS3 fully supports Asian typography, so editors can work with 100% accurate information as they write, edit, and copyfit text. In addition, InCopy provides highly productive editorial tools to help editors prepare copy more efficiently for publication. Together, InCopy CS3 and InDesign CS3 introduce a revolutionary new collaborative editorial workflow to professional Chinese and Korean publishing.
- Does InCopy offer a solution for large publishing environments?
- Yes. If you require a custom solution built on top of core InCopy technology, systems integrators worldwide can provide InCopy and InDesign software-compatible publishing systems. For more information, see integrated solutions for large-scale publishing.

- What is product activation?
-
Product activation is an interactive interpretation of the licensing agreement that has always existed between Adobe and its customers. The activation process authenticates licensed users without hindering their ability to use the software the way they always have. It requires a series of simple, quick, anonymous steps upon product installation or within the grace period set by Adobe. Just as creative professionals use watermarks to protect their digital photos and artwork, Adobe is using activation as a way to curtail unlicensed copying of its products.
Adobe's activation process is required on both Mac OS and Windows systems for all editions of Adobe Creative Suite 3 and related standalone products including Adobe InCopy CS3. For more information about activation, visit the product activation page.
