Player Distribution FAQ

I want to download an Adobe Player for my personal computer. Am I in the right place?

You do not need a distribution license to download any of the Adobe Players for individual use. You can download the Player installers you need from our Downloads page.

Which installer formats are available through the licensing program?

Adobe provides installers in the following formats: EXE, MSI, MSM and DMG. Installers may not be available in all formats for all Players. Adobe also provides a Flash Player Catalog for licensing and use with the SMS 2003 R2 Inventory Tool for Custom Updates. Catalogs for other players are not available at this time. View licensing options for more information.

Does Adobe provide catalogs for the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 R2 Inventory Tool for Custom Updates?

Adobe currently provides a Flash Player Catalog for licensing and use with the SMS 2003 R2 Inventory Tool for Custom Updates. Network administrators can download and import the catalog into the Custom Scan Tool. Catalogs for other players are not available at this time.

Can I license the Adobe Players for distribution on CD-ROM or for my company or educational institution intranet?

Yes. If you've created CD-ROM or intranet content that depends on an Adobe Player, you can distribute the Players via CD or intranet so your users won't have to download them from the Internet. View licensing options for more information.

Can I make the Adobe Players available directly from my website?

No. The Adobe free Player distribution agreement does not allow you to distribute the Players from your website. You must direct visitors to the Adobe Web Players area of our Downloads site. To easily link to our website, we provide Adobe Web Player buttons that you can display on your site. You can download the buttons and view the guidelines here: http://www.adobe.com/macromedia/style_guide/buttons/

What are the license terms for Adobe Players?

The license terms are fully described in the License Agreement.

Can I make the Adobe Players available on my Intranet using server-workstation software like Citrix?

Yes, with restrictions. You may make the Adobe Players available using servers that create instances of software programs on workstations within a closed environment only, for example within your secured intranet or private extranet. You cannot use this or any means, however, to provide any Adobe Player over the open web, for example for visitors to your website.

Can I distribute an Adobe Player on an operating system if a version specific to that OS is not provided?

No. The standard license only permits distribution on authorized operating systems as defined in the agreement, and for which installers or packages are provided.

Can I distribute an Adobe Player on an Intel Mobile Internet Device (MID) or Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) under the free runtime distribution agreement?

The free distribution agreement covers general purpose computing desktop and laptop computers that are open systems, where an end-user is able to update the player on the device. Distribution on closed devices is subject to a licensing fee and different licensing terms, and restrictions are specified in the license agreement.

If your Intel MID or UMPC device is an open system, uses an authorized operating system, can use the desktop binaries as-is, and otherwise complies with the terms specified in the license agreement, you may license the Adobe Players for distribution.

Please contact an Adobe Mobile & Devices representative if you are interested in licensing Flash Player for distribution on devices.

Who can I talk to for a customized agreement if the terms of the standard agreement do not meet my needs?

Can I change the Adobe Player installers or create my own?

The Agreement does not allow for modifying the installers that are provided via the Player Distribution Licensing Agreement in any way. For example, you cannot use the contents to create a new installer or install the Adobe Player to a location on disk other than that specified by the provided installers. If you are using systems management software or deployment tools, you may wrap the installers in the appropriate packaging format for your system provided no other changes to the Adobe Player installation are made.
