What Geographic Information Systems (GIS) file formats does MAPublisher import?
MAPublisher and MAPublisher LT import the most widely used map standard formats: USGS (DLG, SDTS), AutoCAD (DXF) MapInfo (MID/MIF), ArcInfo (GEN), and ArcView (SHP) files, plus government satellite images and aerial photography with all database attributes intact.

What is meant by "all attributes intact"?
MAPublisher imports the map data files directly into Adobe® Illustrator®, with no separate conversion needed. All of the line, point, or polygon graphics features have an associated data record, so each can be viewed, edited, or manipulated within Adobe® Illustrator®.

What other features does MAPublisher include?
MAPublisher lets you re-project and scale map data; auto-label with text; create a map legend; edit attributes from a spreadsheet-like table; import, place and scale a geo-referenced air photo; query attributes for image selection and manipulation; reduce the data set by joining common line segments and much more!

How does MAPublisher import GIS data files?
Each map element (such as roads, municipal boundaries, and areas) is imported into a separate layer for easy customization.

How does MAPublisher import ArcInfo files?
Simply use the ArcInfo ARCSHAPE function or the ArcInfo generate function to "export" your point, line and polygon layers (ArcInfo coverages). If you have unique numeric values associated with your graphic features, you can first calculate the coverage/user-id prior to creating ArcInfo generate files, then these values will be available after you import your files into MAPublisher.

Can I export my map once I'm done in Adobe Illustrator?
You can save your map in a number of vector or raster formats, as well as other GIS mapping formats. You can also save as Adobe PDF for cross-platform applications, or to geo-enable your website.

Why should I do my cartographic work in a graphics program?
From legend to final printing and publishing, Illustrator makes the map production process much faster and easier, and provides superior quality graphics over traditional GIS software. MAPublisher lets you retain GIS functionality within a high-end graphics program.

Does MAPublisher work with both Illustrator 9.0 and Illustrator 8.0?
MAPublisher 4.0 works properly with both Illustrator 8.0 and Illustrator 9.0.

MAPublisher 3.5 will work properly in Illustrator 9.0, however, existing MAPublisher documents that were created with earlier versions of Illustrator will fail to retain their map attributes when opened in Illustrator 9.0. Documents created with MAPublisher 3.5 in Illustrator 9.0 will save and re-open properly and all map attribute information will be retained. If you upgrade to Illustrator 9.0, you should also upgrade to MAPublisher 4.0.
