What's new
Take advantage of an efficient metadata workflow
Metadata-rich shot lists from Adobe Story scripts new
Move into production quickly by creating a metadata-rich Shot List in Adobe OnLocation. When Adobe OnLocation imports a script from Adobe Story — one of the new Adobe CS Live online services* — it breaks it out into separate shots, transforming information from the script into rich XMP metadata that helps speed up production of content that can be more easily found by viewers. CS Live services are complimentary for a limited time.
Custom metadata schema import new
Ensure consistent logging by multiple users, and across productions, by importing pre-created metadata schema files that include specific field values.
Tapeless recording and logging new
Get all the benefits of real-time, on-set logging even when working with tapeless cameras. Adobe OnLocation CS5 lets you add comments and metadata to placeholder clips while they are being recorded elsewhere on a tapeless camera. Then, using a unique system that tracks which clips were recording while log notes were entered, Adobe OnLocation CS5 merges the logging information with video and audio at import time to create a tapelessly recorded, fully logged piece of media.

Tapeless camera support new
Work with content from tapeless cameras using all the Adobe OnLocation capabilities for on-set logging and clip analysis. Import Sony XDCAM, XDCAM HD, XDCAM EX, Panasonic P2, AVCHD, AVC-Intra, and HDV media directly into Adobe OnLocation without transcoding or rewrapping.
File browsing from disk new
Find the files you need quickly by opening any supported media files directly in the Adobe OnLocation monitor window. Play and scrub files and add In and Out points using the fast, intuitive Adobe OnLocation interface.
Easier access to Take and Shot recording modes enhanced
Switch between Take and Shot recording modes using a dedicated control in the Shot List that provides immediate visual confirmation of the current mode.
Shot List organization improvements enhanced
Organize the view in the Shot List more effectively using a number of improvements in Adobe OnLocation CS5, including the ability to sort on any column and search based on any metadata attribute.
Powerful Shot List management new
Save time as you manage shots using powerful options to break out scenes into multiple shots and camera angles. Adobe OnLocation makes sure all appropriate metadata is transferred across to the new items and updates information where necessary.
Shot List view customization new
Fit more information into a smaller area or create more space by choosing from four thumbnail size options in the Shot List.
Shot List publishing new
Keep everyone up to date during production by publishing your Adobe OnLocation Shot List. Adobe OnLocation creates a CSV file and makes it simple to control which Shot List items and information are included. The information can be viewed on a variety of software and devices, including iPod touch and iPhone.
Automatic reopen option new
Pick up where you left off more quickly with an option to reopen the last project automatically every time you launch Adobe OnLocation.
Fast and efficient tapeless camera browsing new
Use the new Media Browser panel in Adobe OnLocation CS5 to browse the contents of tapeless cameras without needing to understand camera filenaming conventions. The Media Browser operates the same way as the one in Adobe Premiere Pro, displaying media clips along with their own metadata, plus information specific to Adobe OnLocation such as take number, good rating, and so forth.
Capture and edit faster with direct-to-disk recording
Project browsing in the Media Browser new
Find media used in other Adobe OnLocation projects without opening the projects. View the project contents in the Media Browser panel as if the project were a folder of media, and then drag and drop files directly into the current Adobe OnLocation project.
Comment marker list new
View and edit the comment markers for each clip in your project using a sortable list view that makes it easy to find specific logged issues, and then view them in the Adobe OnLocation monitor window.
TurboComments new
Log live action accurately and efficiently using TurboComments, predefined comments that can be recorded using a single keystroke. Create sets of comments that include the most commonly used words for the content in production (cast names, sports highlights, and so forth), and then use the number keys on the keyboard to enter the comments with minimum effort and maximum timecode accuracy.
Timecode-accurate playhead placement new
Position the playhead exactly where you need it by using timecode controls that allow scrubbing of timecode or direct entry of specific values.
Easier access to important transport controls enhanced
Find the most important controls when working under pressure on set thanks to large Record and Stop buttons.
Audio playback while scrubbing new
Find the section you need more quickly by listening to audio during scrubbing and frame advance.
Poster frames new
Find clips visually more efficiently by assigning a poster frame for each clip.
Convenient reconnection of missing media new
When file references get broken, reconnect media files to items in the Adobe OnLocation project quickly and easily.
Easy comment marker placement new
Ensure the accuracy of comment markers by dragging and dropping them or by entering exact timecode values.
Work with professional on-set monitoring tools
Imported file scan and analysis new
Analyze imported files using the same alert system used during live disk recording. Adobe OnLocation quickly scans imported media for problems with audio pops and clipping and video overbrights.
