This article is part of a larger series that reviews the LMS tracking mechanisms that Macromedia Breeze Presenter 5 is capable of integrating with. The tracking options aren’t exactly new, but the architecture is, and the functionality has improved. This article focuses on the AICC tracking mechanism—what’s new and what you need to know to successfully deploy Breeze Presenter 5 content in an AICC-compliant learning management system (LMS).

This article does not discuss the specific benefits of using an AICC-compliant LMS, or integration with any specific AICC-compliant LMS. You can explore the Macromedia Breeze Presenter 5 Resource Center and the eLearning Resource Center for more information on these topics as well as general information on the tracking options and mechanisms available in Breeze Presenter 5.

This article is appropriate for all types of users. It provides an overview for new users as well as an entry point for users looking for specific AICC information and integration issues with Breeze Presenter 5. This article does not describe the AICC standard or its benefits.

For the purposes of this document, I may refer to the communication with an LMS as "tracking" or "tracking mechanism," because I am referring to tracking mechanisms that are used to communicate the results of Breeze Presenter 5 files to an LMS. (See the LMS Overview article.)

To complete this tutorial you will need to install the following software and files:

Breeze Presenter 5 (or Breeze Presenter 5 published files)

Flash Player (version 6 or later).

  • You might use additional software if you are publishing for Breeze, AICC, or SCORM.

Tutorials and sample files:

Sample files are available for each of the tracking mechanisms in Breeze Presenter 5. The sample files provide you with source and packaged files for each option. You can view the source code to see how the project was created and what is published and distributed for each of the tracking mechanisms. Because Macromedia has already tested the sample content in respective LMS tracking environments. You can test the sample content in your environment(s) so that you can compare the results of something that we’ve validated as working with creating and publishing your own Breeze Presenter 5 content.

You can download the sample content for the AICC tracking mechanism using the following link. See the complimentary articles published at the Breeze Presenter 5 Resource Center to download other tracking mechanism example files. To use the content, you must download the sample content from the following link. The files are all available in ZIP format and may require you to install an extraction program such as WinZip (available from You can then extract the contents into a working directory. You can find additional information in the ReadMe.txt file, which you will find in the root of the extracted files:

Sample Files

This section briefly discusses the sample files that you can download.

AICC Frameset

This folder contains two additional files for creating and opening your Breeze Presenter 5 files from a frameset. Breeze Presenter 5 does not require that you open your content from a frameset for two-way tracking to occur. But you may need to use framesets to support levels of tracking (even one-way tracking) such as when you are hosting your content in a different domain from your LMS.

AICC Publishing Template

This AICC Publishing Template folder contains an updated AICC.htm publishing file. You should back up and replace the existing AICC.htm file where the Breeze Presenter 5 is installed (typically C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Breeze 5\AICC). Once replaced, the Breeze Presenter publish process uses this new template each time you publish for AICC (or Breeze).

Breeze Presenter 5

The Breeze Presenter 5 folder contains source and packaged files of Breeze Presenter 5 content created for AICC tracking. This gives you an idea of what the source files look like and what packaged files you need to deploy for successful integration with your AICC-compliant LMS. The packaged folder contains the typical published Breeze Presenter 5 content as well as content hosted in a frameset that’s using the AICC frameset files.

Cross-domain Policy File

This contains a sample cross-domain policy file that allows posts from Flash-based files from any domain. You must host this file at the root of the LMS web server (not the content server). It is not recommended that you allow posts from Flash files hosted on any domain. The cross-domain policy file is a sample file, and you can modify it to allow posts from specific domains that host your Flash-based content.
