1. DESCRIPTION OF THE CONTEST: The Macromedia eLearning Innovation Awards Program Contest is a skill promotion designed to honor the developer and instructional authors of educational and training content. Entries must be developed using a Macromedia product or any combination of Macromedia products, including but not limited to Authorware, Breeze, Breeze Live, ColdFusion, Director, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Flash Professional or FreeHand. A free 30 day trial download of each of these software products will be available during the promotion period by going to www.macromedia.com/software. Submissions will be accepted from 12:00 AM (PT) July 15, 2003 through 11:59 PM (PT) January 1, 2004.
2. DEVELOPMENT GUIDELINES: You must consolidate all media and external files. If at all possible, make sure that any external media, files or drivers required by your application are located in the same directory and use the same path as the application itself. The application should be executable from the media provided without installation; otherwise, provide an automatic set-up utility in the top-level directory of the media. For applications submitted on CD-ROM, ZIP or floppy disk, add a README.TXT file that includes: Acceptance of Rules states ("I have read and accept the stated official rules"); name of application; application URL; category; main authoring tool used; secondary authoring tool used; company/institution; created by; contact person, e-mail and phone; country; Description of instructional content and goals (50 words maximum); how to set up and run the application, if necessary; any additional necessary information.
3. HOW TO ENTER: You may choose the format, content and design. Your entry must be received by mail or through our online submission form by January 1, 2004. Acceptable media are CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, ZIP disk, high-density (1.44 MB) diskettes, or URL link to online content. If your submission is anything other than a URL link to online content, YOU MUST SUBMIT TWO IDENTICAL COPIES OF YOUR MEDIA to facilitate simultaneous judging by multiple reviewers. Make sure to clearly label the entry with the application, authors name and institution. Once the application, media and documentation files have been packaged into a single archived medium, the entry must be submitted to Macromedia at: Macromedia, 600 Townsend, San Francisco, CA 94103, Attention: eLearning Innovation Program or through our online submission form located at www.macromedia.com/bin/eliap_contest.cgi. By entering, you warrant that you are the sole designer, creator and owner of the instructional program, and that nothing in your entry infringes in any way on the intellectual property rights, rights of privacy or publicity or any other rights of a third party. By entering, you grant Macromedia and a royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide license to use and publicly display your entry for all advertising and marketing purposes, including promoting their web sites, products and services. Any entry not complying with the entry requirements or is obscene, defamatory or offensive, in Macromedias sole discretion, may be disqualified. Entries will not be returned. Macromedia assumes no responsibility if for any reason your program cannot be viewed or is not capable of running as planned. Macromedia is not responsible for any errors in contest-related materials, or lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete or illegible entries. You may submit more than one entry, but you must separately submit each entry.
4. ELIGIBILITY: This contest is open to residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia and Canada (excluding Quebec) who are 18 years of age or older. Void in Quebec and where prohibited by law. All winners will be required to execute an affidavit swearing to compliance with these eligibility requirements. If you reside outside the U.S. or Canada, you may submit entries, but you are not eligible to win any prizes; however, Macromedia reserves the right to post your entry in a showcase if in its sole discretion it deems it worthy of showcasing. Furthermore, all other official rules and releases set forth herein shall apply. Employees of Macromedia, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, agencies and assigns, and their immediate family members (spouse and parents, children and siblings, and their spouses) as well as individuals living in the same household of each are not eligible. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and provincial laws and regulations.
5. CATEGORIES AND CRITERIA: One winner will be selected in each of the following categories. (Entrants may submit more than one entry. Each entry can be submitted in one category only. the summaries following each category are for descriptive purposes only):
- Corporate: Innovative elearning content, applications or solutions developed by or for the use of a corporation. Entries must be developed using a Macromedia product or any combination of Macromedia products, including but not limited to Authorware, ColdFusion, Director, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Macromedia Flash, or Freehand.
- Government: Innovative elearning content, applications or solutions developed by or for a government organization. Entries must be developed using a Macromedia product or any combination of Macromedia products, including but not limited to Authorware, ColdFusion, Director, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Macromedia Flash, or Freehand.
- (3) Rapid E-learning: Innovative use of Breeze-based solutions for collaboration or dissemination of time critical information, regardless of the affiliation of the developer or end-user. Entries must be developed using Macromedia Breeze or Macromedia Breeze Live alone or with additional Macromedia products, including but not limited to Authorware, ColdFusion, Director, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Macromedia Flash, or Freehand.
Macromedia will choose one winner based on the following criteria (the summaries following each criteria are for descriptive purposes only):
- Creativity/Ingenuity: 33%. Is the entry aesthetically pleasing? Is it in good taste? Is the entry creative, unique and inventive? Is it beyond the typical?
- Instructional Design/Functionality: 33%. Does the entry achieve its goals? Is the entry intuitive to use? Does the entry allow the user to do something? Can the user give and receive?
- Technical Achievement: 33%. Does the entry maximize or extend the use of the Macromedia tool? Does the entry make use of multiple media types and promote user interactivity?
6. JUDGING: Judging will take place during the month following the submission period, and winners will be announced shortly thereafter. In case of a tie, the submissions with the highest score in criteria 1 will win, then criteria 2, then 3 , until there is a winner. If all scores in each criterion are the same, the judges will re-judge the submissions solely against each other to determine a winner.
7. PRIZES: (2) First Prizes, one in each category: a Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC (ARV: $500) and the winners choice of the following Macromedia client authoring products: Macromedia Authorware, Macromedia Director MX or Macromedia Studio MX 2004 with Macromedia Flash MX Professional.
8. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION: By entering, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules, and the decisions of Macromedia, which shall be final in all respects. Winners will be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release, and, where legal, a Publicity Release within 14 days of first attempted notification. In the event of non-compliance with these requirements, Winners entry will be disqualified and an alternate winner will be selected at Macromedias discretion. For those prize winners who are less than the age of majority in their state or province, the affidavit and release will have to be signed by the winners parent or legal guardian. All entrants agree to permit Macromedia to use their entries for Macromedia marketing/advertising materials in perpetuity and for any and all purposes, including but not limited to highlighting entries on their web sites and including the entries in print publications. All winners will receive promotion on Macromedias Web site. Submissions remain the property of the entrants; however, by entering, entrants also agree to the use of the winners name and likeness for purposes of advertising and promotion without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law. By entering, participants release and hold harmless Macromedia, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability or injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with participation in this contest or acceptance or use of any prize.
9. INTERNET: Sponsor assumes no responsibility for technical, hardware or software failure of any kind, for lost network connection or for garbled computer transmissions. If for any reason, programs are not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, and unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsor which corrupt or affect administration, security, fairness, integrity, or discretion, Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Promotion. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, alteration of entries. Sponsor is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail to be received by Sponsor on account of technical problems, human error or traffic congestion on the Internet or any Web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to the participants or any other persons computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this promotion. If for any reason your submission cannot be viewed or is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer viruses, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud or technical failures, Sponsor assumes no responsibility. Sponsor is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions.
10. PUBLICATION OF WINNERS: Within forty-five days of the conclusion of each contest period, the winners will be published on the Macromedia web site at www.macromedia.com/resources/elearning/eliap. A list of winners may also be obtained by emailing innovation@macromedia.com or by sending a request, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope, to Macromedia Innovation Program, Macromedia, 600 Townsend, San Francisco, CA 94103, to be received by forty-five days following the end of the submission period.
